Security of the Partition Assistant

Every computer user will partition hard disk and perform partition management. As is well known, a brand new hard disk can not be used at once, because it does not have any storage competence. At this time, some users may ask how a brand new hard disk could get storage competence. Actually, the answer is very simple. I believe many experienced users know the answer is to partition and format hard disk at first, giving brand new hard disk storage competence and management competence. However, after partitioning hard disk, the vast majority of computer users, I believe, are unsatisfied with the current disk state, namely just having storage competence. As more and more data are stored on hard disk, users begin to care about hard disk performance, disk space use ratio, and data security gradually. As we all know, the most economical and effective method for promoting hard disk performance, disk space use ratio, and data security is to perform good partition management. At this time, many users who do not have a deep understanding of knowledge of computer or those users who are unwilling to waste a large amount of time on partition management hope to own a professional partition assistant. Nevertheless, if we ask professionals for help, we will spend plenty of money. I believe the vast majority of computer users are willing to adopt this method. Well then, is there a more economical partition assistant? The answer is of course yes.

Maybe, many users have asked professionals for help to get more reasonable partition mode. Well, do you want to free perform partition management by yourselves like a professional? If your answer is yes, selecting a powerful and professional partition magic is a good way for us to get good partition management. However, as partitions are being used and may store pretty important data when we perform partition management, we must pay much attention to software security and stability when selecting partition magic, avoiding serious consequences like the loss of important data. Considering data security, I suggest selecting MiniTool Partition Wizard, an excellent and professional partition assistant developed by the famous software development company – MiniTool Solution Ltd. to help you accomplish partition management.

After reading the above content, many users may be cautious about the functions and security of the partition assistant MiniTool Partition Wizard, so where are the powerful functions and security reflected? The answer can be seen from the following operations. After visiting the official website http://www.partitionwizard.com/ to download this partition assistant, we install and run it to get the following interface:

This is the main interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard. Here, we can see this partition assistant has quite all-sided functions. After selecting any partition in partition list, we will see detailed partition management functions from the left “Operations” column. In addition, the options “Disk“, “Partition“, and “Dynamic Disk” show this partition assistant has pretty comprehensive partition management functions and dynamic disk management functions. Therefore, MiniTool Partition Wizard has quite powerful functions. Of course, we will introduce its security briefly by demonstrating how to move partition.

First, select the partition which needs moving in the main interface. Then, click “Move/Resize” functional button to enter its resizing interface, like the following interface shows:

In the above interface, the option marked with red line is the switch of the enhanced data protection mode. When the marquee is checked, this mode is started. With the help of this mode, we can avoid data loss caused by accidents, like power outage and hardware failure. Here, we can move partition by dragging partition handle or inputting exact value to change the position of the partition handle. Then, click “OK” to go back to the main interface:

In the main interface, we can preview the result. If the result is expected, we click “Apply” to perform all operations. Then, we are successful to move partition.

Partition Magic for Windows 7

MiniTool Partition Wizard is the outstanding partition magic for Windows 7 which runs perfectly under 32/64bit personal, professional and enterprise operating systems like Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows 2003, Windows 2008, and Windows 7. As is known to us, managing partition under Windows operating system is a tough task since the system build-in disk management tool doesn’t offer enough functions to meet the increasing demands of user to perform various operations on partition. Therefore, user should turn to third-party partition magic software to realize those operations such as create partition, delete partition, format partition, merge partition, resize partition, copy partition, convert partition format, etc. As I recommended before, MiniTool Partition Wizard is an outstanding partition magic for user to perform operations on Windows 7.

Developed by MiniTool Solution Ltd. with powerful functions and easy-to-use operations, MiniTool Partition wizard runs perfectly under FAT 12, FAT 16, FAT 32 and NTFS file formats. The developer, MiniTool Solution Ltd., has committed to research and study of working principles of storage devices such as discs (CD / DVD / BD / HD DVD), hard disks (IDE SCSI ATA RAID), flash card, memory card, etc. It has released MiniTool Partition Wizard,MiniTool Drive Wipe, MiniTool Partition Recovery, MiniTool Drive copy, MiniTool Power Data Recovery in a row, having received great praise from enormous users throughout the world.

Windows Server 2003 Partition Magic

Windows Server 2003 is an excellent server edition operating system released by Microsoft on March 28th, 2003. Compared with Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 has a lot of improvement like improvement on Active Directory, operation and management of Group Police and so on. It is highly appreciated by many server users due to its higher security, reliability, availability and expandability. When users enjoy those advantages, they may encounter lots of problems. One of them is the partition management. Since disk management tool built in Windows Server 2003 has simplex function, many users are looking for some better Windows Server 2003 partition magic for partition management while there are some other users familiar with code using the command “DiskPart” to manage disks. Which method is better? We will make a comparison in partition of Windows Server 2003.

User need not to install the software. The detailed procedures are following.

1. Click “Start“.
2. Select “Command Prompt“.

3. Input “diskpart” in the popup command line interface and press “Enter
4. Input “list volume” and press “Enter” to view partition status.
5. Input “select volume x” to select the partition that will be expanded (X is the number of partition which needs to be expanded).
6. Input “extend” to finish partition expansion.
NOTE: If users want to extend partition by using “DiskPart”, there must be unallocated space adjacent to the partition that will be extended

We can save installation procedure by using the command “DiskPart” in Windows Sever 2003, but inputting command code is difficult and complicated for users who are unfamiliar with code. AndWindows Server 2003 partition magic is easier to reduce the possibility of accidental operation.

As to Windows Server 2003 partition magic, MiniTool Partition Wizard, released by MiniTool Solution Ltd., is recommended. The server edition of MiniTool Partition Wizard is specially designed for compatible server systems. It possesses high security and reliability and runs perfectly in Windows server systems like Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. Download it on the official website: http://www.partitionwizard.com and install it in the partition which will not be operated on. Then run it.

In this main interface, we should select the partition that will be extended and click the function module “Move/Resize” to go on.
NOTE: There must be unallocated partition adjacent to the partition that will be extended. If not, you can employ “Move/Resize” to adjust partition location.

In this interface, we can extend partition by dragging the right-oriented arrow towards the right. Then click “OK” back to the main interface.

Then click “Apply” to execute all operations. And we have finished the partition expansion by using Windows Server 2003 partition magic, MiniTool Partition Wizard.

Windows 2000 Server Partition Magic

Maybe some users still use Windows 2000 Server operating system. However, it is not as excellent and popular as Windows 2008 Server, for it has relatively low network security. Network security is one of the most important things for server. And reasonable disk management will improve server security. During the usual management of Windows 2000 Server, the administrator will reasonably allocate the partition to stabilize sever and improve the operation efficiency. And most users apply Partition Magic to manage partition because it has good ability. But when users use DOS boot system, Windows 2000 Serve Partition Magic can not operate normally to adjust partition unless we manually change allocation files. This is difficult for users who are unfamiliar with computer. And miss operation will lead to unnecessary troubles. Actually it is mush easier to manage by using another kind of software MiniTool Partition wizard instead of Windows 2000 Server Partition Magic. MiniTool Partition Wizard also has powerful functions. It has high compatibility and property and can operate in various operating systems and manage partitions of different forms. MiniTool Partition Wizard can easily meet the demands for partition management like perfectly merge partition in Windows Server 2000.

Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard. Then run it.
(NOTE: The two partitions that will be merged must be with the same file system and adjacent to each other. If their file systems are different or the two partitions are not adjacent, you can adjust them by using MiniTool Partition Wizard).

This is the main interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard. Select any partition and click “Merge Partition” in the drop-down menu “Operations“.

Select the target partition and click “Next“. (NOTE: the selected partition will be extended partition and its letter is the letter of the new partition)

Select the partition that will be merged into the target partition and click “Finish” to go back to the main interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard.

In the main interface, the new merged partition can be previewed. Confirm all operations in “Operations Pending” and then click “Apply” to execute all operations. By now, merging partition has been finished.

During the process of merging partition, the prompts can help users a lot.

Extend Boot Partition

User could employ MiniTool Partition Wizard, the powerful yet free partition magic software to extend boot partitionon Windows 7 safely if necessary.

Windows 7, the latest PC operating system issued by Microsoft in 2009, enjoys more powerful performances and eye-pleasing interfaces. Still a host of Windows XP users are trying to employ Windows 7. Since Windows 7 is new to them, committing mistakes is inextricable while they are using Windows 7, for example, it is very common for new Windows 7 user to fail to allocate inadequate space for operating system, which consequently results in tardy operating speed and low performance. If we install only one operating system, namely, Windows 7, on the computer, the system partition and boot partition are the same one though they assume discrepancies. So what should we do to release more free space for system and boot partition? In my opinion, the optimum solution is to extend boot partition with third-party partition magic software, such as MiniTool Partition Wizard.

MiniTool Partition Wizard offers various powerful functions for both Windows and Linux operating systems including move/resize partition, merge partition, change cluster size, copy partition, copy disk, create partition, delete partition, format partition, convert file system, explore partition, hide/unhide partition, set active partition, convert dynamic disk to basic disk, change drive letter, wipe partition, set partition label, etc. Furthermore, MiniTool Partition Wizard supports almost all Windows operating systems including Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and supports various file systems such as FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS4, NTFS5, EXT2, EXT3 and Linux Swap, etc. Moreover, MiniTool Partition Wizard provides comprehensive data protection modes to ensure data safety under each operation. What’s more, MiniTool Partition Wizard is totally free for home and personal users.

Download MiniTool Partition Wizard at MiniTool Partition Wizard Download Center for free and then install it to computer.
Launch MiniTool Partition Wizard to meet the following interface:

This is the main interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard.
In this interface we can clearly notice C: is the system and boot partition, therefore, we should select and right click this partition and then click “Move/Resize“.

Extend partition size by dragging the arrows on the scrollbar or directly entering values in the textboxes below, then click “OK“.

Lastly, click “Apply” to execute pending operation. After a short period, the boot partition will be successfully extended.

Convert FAT to NTFS

How to convert FAT to NTFS on XP? MiniTool Partition Wizard – the very partition magic software would be the best solution.

In order to overcome size limit of FAT16, while at the same time allowing DOS real mode code to handle the format, and without reducing available conventional memory unnecessarily, Microsoft implemented a next generation, known as FAT32. Cluster values are represented by 32-bit numbers, of which 28 bits are used to hold the cluster number, for a maximum of approximately 268 million clusters. This allows for drive sizes of up to 8 TiB with 32 KiB clusters, but the boot sector uses a 32-bit field for the sector count, limiting volume size to 2 TB on a hard disk with 512 byte sectors. NTFS (New Technology File System) is the standard file system of Windows NT, including its later versions Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. NTFS supersedes the FAT file system as the preferred file system for Microsoft’s Windows operating systems. NTFS has several improvements over FAT and HPFS such as improved support for metadata and the use of advanced data structures to improve performance, reliability, and disk space utilization, plus additional extensions such as security access control lists and file system journaling.

1. Create partition of FAT, FAT32, NTFS, Ext2, Ext3 and Linux Swap, etc.
2. Delete partition.
3. Format partition.
4. Wipe partition
5. Delete entire disk.
6. Delete all disk partitions.
7. Detect partition bad track.
8. Resize partition cluster.
9. Distribute logical drive for partition
10.Set partition as activated or inactivated.
11.Recover lost partition.
12.Merge partitions while insuring data safety.
13.Resize partition while insuring data safety.
14.Check file system.
15.Copy partition.
16.Copy entire disk.
17.Convert partition file system while insuring data safety.
18.Set logical or main partition freely.

To convert FAT to NTFS, please first download MiniTool Partition Wizard at MiniTool Partition Wizard Download Center free.
Then install MiniTool Partition Wizard and launch it to meet the following interface:

Select and right click desired FAT partition, then click “Convert Fat to NTFS“.

Now click “Start” to convert. After that, click “Close” and thus our MiniTool Partition Wizard partition magic software would successfully convert FAT32 to NTFS.

Norton Partition Magic

Norton Partition Magic is the partition software for personal computers first developed by Power Quest. It can copy, resize, move disks partitions with NTFS or FAT16/32 file systems. With its help, FAT 16, FAT 32 and NTFS file systems can be converted from one to another. The size of cluster of FAT 16/32 and NTFS can be changed. And FAT file system and NTFS file system can be combined with this partition software. To some extent, this partition software can support EXT2 and EXT3 file systems.

However, ever since Partition Magic was purchased by Symantec, it has been slow to updating. As such, Operating Systems such as Vista, windows 7, and windows 2008 are not supported.

We can see clearly that due to this limitation, Norton Partition Magic is not the best choice for partition management. As a newly developed partition manager – Partition Wizard is highly recommended based on its powerful functions and efficiency.

MiniTool Partition Manager is a newly released partition software developed by MiniTool Solution Ltd. this partition manager is designed for both server and non-server users. It supports all 32/64 bits Windows Operating Systems including Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, XP, Vista and Windows 7. MiniTool Partition Manager has a powerful protect function of reporting abnormities. There would be no data loss due to computer failure, blue screen, power failure, or sudden cessation of the software by the user. It does not only have a protection mode but is also optimized on partition operations. Therefore, it has a much faster speed than any other partition software. All this saves a lot of time for users.

As the leading partition manager, Partition Wizard has many functions in partition management. With MiniTool Partition Manager, you can do the following things in minutes, including: Move/Resize Partition, Merge Partition,Change Cluster Size, Copy Partition, Create PartitionDelete Partition, Format Partition, Convert File System,Hide/Unhide Partition, Explore Partition, Partition Recovery, Convert Dynamic Disk to Basic Disk and much more. All these operation would be carried out under a protection mode, so you never need to worry about data loss.

Some more advanced functions: rebuild MBR, convert DPT (disk partition table) format from MBR to GTP, and recover data, move/resize system partitions, convert file systems and much more.

MiniTool Partition Manager can support both MBR and GUID partition table format running on 32/64 bits Operating System including Windows XP, Vista, Windows Server 2000/2003/2008 and latest Windows 7.

SSD Partition Alignment

SSD, short for Solid State Disk, is an emerging hard disk that adopts solid state electronic memory chip array as storage medium, consisting of control module and storage module (Flash Chip). Compared with traditional HDD, SSD is of faster data transmission speed, lower power dissipation, noise-free feature, high seismic resistance, producing little heat, small size and larger range of working temperature, so SSD has got a lot of attention as soon as it was released. However, in the process of using SSD, some users many encounter problems. When SSD is mounted to Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP, its performance is debased greatly. That is because some old Windows operating systems, like Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP, can not manage SSD directly, which make partition not aligned, thereby influencing the properties of SSD.

Most of the flash memories existing in the market are composed of 512 KB blocks and each block is composed of many 4KB pages. When we perform wipe operating in a flash memory, it takes block as a unit, but page is taken as a unit when data are written in. The size of a page, 4KB, is just the same as the size of the smallest default allocation unit of NTFS file system. It is supposed to be a good thing. But when we partition SSD in Windows Server 2003, the operation is not started from its head and there is a deviant that causes mismatch between the smallest allocation units and the pages of SSD, which means partition is not aligned. In this situation, when a 4KB data is written in, it will be written on different two pages. This kind of situation about writing data in twice, compared with the ideal condition (the smallest allocation units are corresponding to pages of a flash memory, so we can write the 4KB data into one page all at once), has great limitation. Seen from this,SSD partition alignment is of prime importance if we want to use SSD better in Windows Server 2003.

How to align partition on SSD?
Since Windows Server 2003 doesn’t provide users with a solution to SSD partition alignment, we have to resort to the third-party partition magic to align partition on SSD in a bid to improve SSD performance in Windows Server 2003. We suggest users apply the free partition magic MiniTool Partition Wizard to carry out SSD partition alignment. In the process, partition data won’t be influenced and operations are simple as well.

Firstly, run MiniTool Partition Wizard and then select the SSD partition that will be aligned. Then click “Align Partition” on the left, shown as follows.

Secondly, click “Apply” to perform the operation of aligning SSD partition, as follows.

After the free partition magic stops operating, SSD partition alignment is finished successfully.
